Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) serves as a resource to assist the University in maintaining a safe environment in which to work and study. A key responsibility within this effort is monitoring the University’s compliance with various federal, state and local regulations related to workplace safety and the protection of the environment. To the extent that an unsafe condition or instance of non-compliance with safety-related regulations has been identified, EHS will work with the University department to correct the situation.

Major regulations that apply to colleges and universities include:

  • OSHA 1926 – Safety and Health Regulations for Construction
  • Clean Air Act (CAA)
  • Clean Water Act (CWA)
  • Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
  • Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA)
  • Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA)
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)
  • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
