DePaul Center; 1 East Jackson Blvd.

All occupants of the DePaul Center (333 S. State; 1 E. Jackson Blvd.) of DePaul University are expected to be aware of the following:

  • two paths of egress from their area of occupancy leading to lit exits,
  • "areas of rescue" on their occupancy floors,
  • the sound of the fire alarm, and
  • the evacuation procedures listed.
  1. Once the loud fire alarm is activated, occupants should take only the most important items from their offices, (such as purses, attaché cases, coats), close all doors and proceed quietly to the nearest exit for evacuation. No time should be spent in saving files, turning off computers, collecting documents, filling papers, finishing phone calls, finishing lectures, completing exams, etc.

  2. ALL OCCUPANTS (STAFF, FACULTY, STUDENTS, VISITORS, ETC) MUST EVACUATE.

  3. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS DURING AN EVACUATION.

  4. All self-identified people with disabilities, employees with short term disabilities and visitors with disabilities, with their assistants, are to go to the designated areas of rescue. The City emergency services will be made aware of the areas of rescue and check them to assist in the evacuation.

  5. Public Safety and Facilities Operations personnel will be on hand to direct and assist with the evacuation. All occupants need to stay calm, quiet and follow the directions that may be given verbally or through the public address system.

  6. Once the Fire Department or other City emergency services arrive, all occupants are to follow all of their directives. No one will be allowed to go back into the building or into any staircase until an "All Clear" is given by these agencies.

Information about area exits and posted "areas of rescue" can be found in the evacuation routes posted in all elevator lobbies.
